2009 BRIARCLIFFE SOFTBALL PREVIEW

The 2009 Softball Season will be a stiff challenge due to the fact that our success in 2008 will have opponents wary of us since we ended the season ranked #1 in the USCAA.

Our returning players give us a very strong core and we are building the program by recruiting some exceptional players for their talent and character. We played a much tougher schedule in our second full season as a 4 year school and did very well, finishing the season with a 25 – 12 record (including 3 wins in the playoffs).

Returning players include All American Laura McTaggart, Honorable Mention and Academic All American Michelle Bauerschmidt, Honorable Mention All American Samantha Koenig, infielder/outfielder Angela Signore, Pitcher Emily LaManna, Outfielder Angela Mohammed, DH/utility player Tori Boschert, Outfielder/2B Jamie Moore and Outfielder Elisha Raiford. Each and every one of them contributed on offense or defense with some big time hits or a game saving play last season. We are expecting more of the same this year.

Our incoming class has us feeling like this season will be even better. The incoming players include:

• Aja Alter - a superb pitcher and hitter from Glen Cove HS
• Nicole Marra - another superb pitcher and hitter from Bayside HS
• Domenica Marsala - an excellent infielder and hitter from Christ the King
• Joann Gonzalez- an excellent hitter and infielder from Evander Childs HS
• Nicloe Catala – a catcher/middle infielder who hits very well. She is a JC transfer from Monroe College.
• Lilianka Reynoso - a superior outfielder and hitter. She is a transfer student from Maryland Eastern Shores, by way of Monroe College.
• Hilda Medina – another superb athlete who can catch and play multiple positions and hits very well. She is a transfer student from Maryland Eastern Shores, by way of Murray Bergtraum HS.

The coaching staff has high hopes and we hope to bring home the USCAA National Softball Championship to Briarcliffe College this season.
